Boat tour prices

One price, set by the city, at all five jetties. Here is what the canal boat costs in 2026, how to pay for it, and how to get it booked when you cannot simply reserve a seat.

There is no price war on the Bruges canals. The City of Bruges sets the tariffs, and all five boat companies charge them: €15 for an adult in 2026, valid until 31 December. No company is cheaper, and no jetty sells a longer or "premium" trip.

What catches people out is the booking. Individual visitors cannot reserve a boat ahead, online or by phone. You walk up, queue and pay in cash or with Payconiq. Groups and private boats work differently, and a handful of guided tours include the ride. Here is the full picture.

The quick answer

A canal boat ride in Bruges costs €15 per adult and €9 for children aged 4 to 11; under 4s ride free (2026 prices, valid until 31 December 2026). Groups of 20 or more pay €12 each and a private boat costs €450. Individuals buy tickets only at the jetties, with Payconiq or cash. Tours that include the boat start from $44 on GetYourGuide.

How much is a canal boat ride in Bruges?

€15 for an adult in 2026, €9 for a child aged 4 to 11, and nothing for under 4s. The same prices apply at every jetty.

The tariffs come from the City of Bruges, and Visit Bruges lists them as valid until and including 31 December 2026. Prices for next year have not been published. The discounts are short and simple:

Can you book a Bruges canal boat tour in advance?

Not as an individual visitor. Tickets are sold on the spot at the jetties, and at busy times you queue. Groups of 20 or more and private boats can be booked ahead.

This is the point most people miss when they search for "Bruges boat tickets". There is no official online shop for single seats, and the companies do not take reservations for small parties. Visit Bruges asks visitors to allow for waiting time when it is busy.

If you want the boat fixed in your plans, two routes work. Book a private boat or a group trip directly with a company. Or book a guided tour that has the boat in its programme: the boat, chocolate and walking tour includes it, while the guided walk with boat option and the small-group tour let you add it.

Where do you buy tickets for the Bruges boats?

At the jetty of the company you sail with. There are five, all in the centre, and you start and end your trip at the same one.

Each company sells only its own trips at its own jetty. You cannot board at one and get off at another. Since route and price are identical, pick by location or by the length of the queue. The phone numbers below are for group and private bookings; individual tickets are simply bought on the spot.

How do you pay for a boat tour in Bruges?

On the spot, with Payconiq or cash. Visit Bruges does not list cards, so bring euros in cash.

Payconiq is a Belgian mobile payment app, and most foreign visitors will not have it. Cash is the safe choice: two adults and a child need €39. There are several cash machines near the jetties if you run short.

Groups and private boats are a different case. The company may ask for a deposit when you book, and each one sets its own way of paying, so ask when you call. Tours booked on GetYourGuide are paid online, which takes cash out of the picture.

  • Two adults: €30.
  • Two adults, two children aged 4 to 11: €48.
  • Adult with a European Disability Card and a companion: €9.

Pay once online for the walk, and add the canal boat or a beer tasting as you book.

How much is a private boat in Bruges?

€450 in 2026: the adult price times 30, at every company, for any number of passengers. Book it ahead with any of the five companies.

A private boat means nobody else on board, which suits a proposal, a birthday or a family that wants the skipper's attention. Small groups and individual visitors can both book one. The boats seat 35 to 40, so the per-head price drops fast as the group grows.

For a party of 20 or more, the group rate of €12 per person is cheaper than going private. Below that, the private boat is the only way to book a time slot directly with a company.

How much is a boat cruise per hour?

In Bruges there is no hourly rate. Every trip is about 30 minutes, longer trips are not possible, and the price is per trip: €15 for an adult.

People who know canal cruises from other cities often ask for a longer or an evening option. Bruges does not have one: the city allows tours on only part of the canals, all on the same loop. Two half hours means two tickets and the same route twice.

You cannot hire a boat to sail yourself, either. No boats are rented without a sailing licence, and canoes, paddleboards and rowing are not allowed on the canals. The only free way onto the water is in summer, when the city builds a swimming platform in the Langerei near Sasplein if the water tests are good.

What do Bruges tours with the canal boat cost?

One tour has the boat in its price, five more offer it as an option, and three popular tours leave it out. GetYourGuide from-prices start at $28 for the walk alone.

Read the inclusions before you compare. The lowest price on the walk with options is the walk alone; the boat costs extra and shows up when you pick that option. Prices are USD from-prices on GetYourGuide and move with the season.

Is Bruges expensive for tourists?

Not for the canal boat: at €15 it costs about the same as the Belfry. Museums add up, and a lot of the city's best views are free.

For scale: the Belfry, 366 steps up, costs €15 in the winter season and €16 from April, with visitors under 18 paying €14 and children under 7 free. Other Musea Brugge locations are free for children under 13. If you plan several museums, the Musea Brugge Card at €49 (€37 under 26, €25 under 18) covers each of its locations once within 72 hours.

Walking the canals costs nothing. The Rozenhoedkaai, the Groenerei, the Minnewater and the Beguinage are all free, and our guide to the best canals shows where to stand. Whether the boat is worth it is covered in its own guide.
