Bruges & Ghent Day Tour from Brussels

About this experience

This is a two-city day, and the order matters. The coach leaves from Boulevard de Berlaimont 18, close to Brussels Central Station, and the guide starts talking about Belgium on the road. Ghent comes first: Saint Bavo's Cathedral, home of the Ghent Altarpiece by the Van Eyck brothers, the old harbour front of the Graslei, the Castle of the Counts and the Great Butchers' Hall, then free time for a terrace. In Bruges the walk covers the Minnewater, the Beguinage, the Old St John's Hospital and the Church of Our Lady, with lunch on the way, and finishes on the Markt under the Belfry. The listing gives 10 hours 30 minutes and a return to Brussels at about 7:30 p.m.

Now the boat, since that is what this site is about: this tour does not include one. The canal boat is not part of this price. You buy it yourself at any of the five jetties, no booking needed: €15 for adults, €9 for children aged 4 to 11, free under 4, in 2026, paid by Payconiq or cash. The ride lasts about 30 minutes and you get off where you got on. The listing says the Bruges guide can organise an optional boat trip for the group; it is still paid on the day. If you would rather go on your own, the Rozenhoedkaai, Wollestraat 32 and Huidenvettersplein 13 jetties are all a few minutes from the Markt, so half an hour of free time is enough. From 15 March to October the boats run every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., last trip half an hour before closing. From November to 14 March at least one jetty sails every day by rotation and the others choose for themselves, so in winter look for the jetty that is open rather than a particular one.

The price covers the air-conditioned coach, a multilingual guide, both guided walks and radios with earphones. Lunch, hotel pickup and entry tickets are extra: the cathedral in Ghent is free to enter, the Ghent Altarpiece visitors' centre charges a fee, and in Bruges you pay for anything you go inside, the boat included. Commentary can be in two languages when the group is mixed. The operator lists the tour as unsuitable for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility, and both cities mean a lot of cobblestones, so wear proper shoes. The two cities are compared side by side in Bruges or Ghent.

What guests say

The tour was excellent! We throughly enjoyed both stops (Bruges and Ghent), loved the walking, rhe bus was in like new condition -- and the guide (Albert) was fantastic. We had a great day!

Pierrot did a great job and provided useful information. Liked the fact that even if we had in our group a lot of kids that lost their patience, he noticed that and involved them in the activities, asked them questions and so on. He does his job with passion, knows the history and also the myths. Awesome tour!

Fantastic [...] definitely the best experience ever. I recommend it for the chance to see two beautiful Flemish cities, for the time spent there, and for the extra activities offered.

Tips before you book

  • Carry cash or have Payconiq ready for the canal boat. The jetties do not take advance bookings from individuals.
  • Use the free time in Bruges for the boat first and shopping second. The ride is only half an hour, but queues build up on busy afternoons.
  • Pack a light rain layer. The boats are open, and umbrellas handed out on board only go so far.
  • Keep the radio earphones in during both walks. The groups are big and the squares are noisy.
  • If you want to see the Ghent Altarpiece itself, ask the guide whether there is time: the cathedral is free, the altarpiece visit is a paid ticket.
