buendía · Carrefour de l'Europe, Brussels
buendía's 10-hour coach day from central Brussels: a guided walk or an audio guide in Bruges, free time, and the canal boat if you pick a boat option. Pick it if you want the trip, the timing and the boat handled in one booking.

The coach leaves from the Carrefour de l'Europe, the square at the main entrance of Brussels Central station, and the drive to Bruges is listed at about 90 minutes. A professional guide rides with you all day. In Bruges the coach uses the city's drop-off at the Bargeplein, because coaches are not allowed into the centre; from there it is about 20 minutes on foot to the Markt. With the Guided option you then walk the main sights with the guide for about 90 minutes. With At Your Pace you get an interactive audio guide and a digital map instead, and no guided walk. Free time follows either way, and on some days the coach makes a panoramic stop in the small canal town of Damme on the way back.
The canal boat is an option, not a given. The boat options add the standard 30-minute canal trip, and the Boat + Beer option adds entry to the Bruges Beer Experience with a tasting of four Belgian craft beers. The $38 from-price does not include them. The boat half hour comes out of your free time, so the day stays the same length. The boats themselves sail every day from 15 March to October, at least from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the last trip half an hour before closing. From November to 14 March the five companies work a rota: at least one jetty sails every day, and the others decide for themselves whether they open. The canal boats are open, with no roof. In a shower the skipper hands out umbrellas; if it rains hard for a long time, the boat companies can stop sailing for a while or stay shut, and that decision is theirs, not the tour's.
Some practical points. Children under 2 must travel in their own car seat or they cannot board. Guides sometimes use radio headsets, so bring headphones with a 3.5 mm jack (disposable ones cost €1). The tour is marked as not suitable for people with mobility impairments. Neither the boats nor the jetties are wheelchair accessible: there are steps down to the water and no lift. One recent guest also had a longer ride home because the coach called at Ghent to collect part of the group, so keep the evening loose.
Meet the guide at the main entrance of Brussels Central station. The coach leaves on time, so be there early.
The guide talks about the places you pass, guests say, and explains how the day in Bruges works.
Guided option: the main squares, streets and canals with the guide. At Your Pace: the audio guide and map, on your own.
Take the city-route boat during your free time. With Boat + Beer, the Bruges Beer Experience and its four-beer tasting come on top.
Lunch, shops, a museum or more canals before you meet back at the coach.
A short panoramic stop in Damme on some days, then the coach home, for about 10 hours in all.
★★★★★Trip to Bruges was a great day. Meeting point was easy to find. Coach comfy. Our guide Thomas was very nice and professional but friendly and informative. Boat trip was a highlight. Bruges is a beautiful place. Only thing that was negative was the long coach ride back which doubled the time as we had to go to Gent to pick up some of the group.
★★★★★Our guide Jaris was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. This trip was the perfect amount of time in Bruges. We were able to hit everything we wanted to see and didn't feel rushed.
★★★★★We did the at your pace tour which was wonderful. It was great being able to meet at the meeting location and not worry about the rest. The bus was comfortable and we had enough time to explore and see everything we wanted. [...] It was definitely worth the money and saved us the hassle of navigating the trains and everything ourselves.
★★★★★A fantastic experience and the boat ride option in Bruges was also a great choice... a beautiful itinerary and Peter, our tour leader, was superb!!!!
